Protected Wildlife

Last July, former Pike River Coal chief executive Peter Whittall succeeded in having his trial over deadly mine health and safety failures moved from Greymouth. According to Whittall's lawyer, his client would be subject to ''hostile and inappropriate behaviour'' from those  who believed themselves to have been affected by his alleged negligence. Now Whittall's case has been dropped, by the same judge who spared him the wrath of the people of Greymouth. And what do you know, Whittall would now like to meet with the bereaved families.
